Karen Finney Blames Everyone Besides Clinton for Election Loss

November 16, 2016

Karen Finney, a senior spokesperson for Hillary Clinton's failed presidential campaign, on Wednesday cited sexism, FBI Director James Comey, the media, and Bernie Bros as reasons why Clinton lost to Donald Trump.

Appearing on CNN's At This HourFinney was asked by hosts John Berman and Kate Bolduan how the Clinton campaign failed to beat Trump.

"What happened?" Berman asked.

Finney first alleged that sexism and misogyny played a role in Clinton's defeat.

"I think given the level of sexism and misogyny that we saw come to the surface and be very public. I think that supports the fact that in this country we are going to have to have a real conversation about that," Finney said.

She went on to complain that third party candidates took votes away from the former secretary of state.

Finney also mentioned that FBI Director James Comey's letter reopening the Clinton email probe so close to the election played a part in the Democratic nominee's defeat.

"I think it certainly played a role and was an important factor," she said.

Finney then suggested that the media spent too much time covering the Clinton Foundation and not enough time focusing on the Trump Foundation.

"I do think the media plays a role in the coverage of this campaign and is another piece that will have to be examined in its aftermath," Finney said.

Berman circled back to Finney's earlier allegation of sexism's role in Clinton's loss.

"What evidence do you have that voters made their decisions based on sexism or misogyny?" he asked.

Finney told Berman that she believes the U.S. needs to have a conversation about how it treats women and why it was so hard for Clinton to become president.

She then argued that male supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) intimidated female supporters of Clinton from voicing their support for her.

"Some of what we saw with the Bernie Bros had a real chilling effect on a lot of women, young women in particular," Finney said.

At no point during her appearance did Finney suggest that her candidate's low poll numbers on honesty and trustworthiness may have contributed to her defeat.
