Symone Sanders on White Trump Supporter Beaten by Mob: 'Poor White People'

November 14, 2016

Symone Sanders, a CNN commentator who was Sen. Bernie Sanders' press secretary during the Democratic primary, on Monday dismissed the incident of a white Chicago man who was beaten last week as the crowd yelled "You voted Trump" at him.

CNN host host Kate Bolduan spoke with Donald Trump supporter Carl Higbie and Sanders to discuss the violent reactions of people to the election and ongoing protests.

Higbie said Trump was straightforward in calling for violence and hate crimes to stop and that many prominent Democrats have not called for an end to the violence.

Sanders dismissed that liberals were participating in criminal activity, arguing they were only protesting. Higbie then mentioned the Chicago case.

"What do you say to the people who dragged a poor white guy out of a car and beat him?" Higbie asked.

"Oh, my goodness! Poor white people, please! Stop. Stop it, Carl," Sanders replied sarcastically.

Sanders then said that she was calling on people to be peaceful before blaming others for the violence, not those who are so opposed to Trump.

"We can't call for people to be peaceful when the rhetoric that has been used is not peaceful, when people don't feel peaceful in their homes and we have to reckon with that," Sanders said.
