Former president George W. Bush has been painting portraits of veterans who were wounded during military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bush gave the world a brief glimpse into his project with wounded warriors in a social media post he made on Veterans Day.

"Over the past several months, I've painted the portraits of 98 wounded warriors I've gotten to know—remarkable men and women who were injured carrying out my orders," Bush wrote. "I think about them on Veterans Day and every day."

The paintings will be compiled in a book, Portraits of Courage, which Bush will release next spring. The proceeds will be donated toward the work that the Bush Center does for military veterans, according to the post.

Bush appears to have further honed his painting skills in the years since 2013, when the world was given a glimpse of his work through an email hack.

His earlier work demonstrated "a command of line and color that is rarely seen in the modern-day 'art' world" and appeared to be influenced by Edgar Degas and Édouard Manet,  according to analysts at the Washington Free Beacon.
