Hillary Clinton and her running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine (Va.), both declined to answer questions on Friday afternoon about the FBI reopening its investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server.
Clinton's team landed in Iowa for a campaign event just as news broke about FBI Director James Comey's decision to reopen the case. As Clinton exited her plane, reporters shouted questions at her.
"Secretary Clinton, any reaction to the FBI investigation? Have you been in touch with the FBI? Any reaction to the FBI reopening the investigation?" a reporter could be heard shouting out to Clinton as she exited her campaign plane. She waved and did not answer questions.
Kaine was holding a press gaggle before a scheduled campaign event at Florida State University when he was asked about the breaking news.
"Do you have a comment on the FBI reopening the investigation into Secretary Clinton's emails?" a reporter asked Kaine.
"Got to read a little more. Got to read a little more," Kaine said repeatedly without specifically answering the question.
Comey sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday letting congressional members know that the FBI would be reopening the investigation into Clinton's private email server. Comey cited new findings from an unrelated case that caused the FBI to reopen its probe.
"I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation," Comey stated in the letter.
