CNN commentator Van Jones told host Don Lemon on Tuesday night that Hillary Clinton is one of the most honest politicians in America, NewsBusters reported.
"Meanwhile, it turns out that Hillary Clinton, when you look at the fact checkers, she’s one of the most honest politicians in America according to the fact checker," said Van Jones, a former White House czar in the Obama administration.
Lemon showed the panel on his show a recent CNN/ORC poll that said Donald Trump was beating Clinton in honesty and trustworthiness among potential voters. Fifty percent of voters see him as more honest and trustworthy, while only 35 percent see Clinton that way.
They are virtually tied in the overall race.
"Does she have to get those numbers up to win?" Lemon asked.
Jones said Clinton has to do something to improve these numbers but added that those figures do not necessarily mean that Trump is honest.
"Part of the thing is, Trump has mastered the idea of being authentically inauthentic," he said. "Right? Everybody knows he’s kind of, uh, you know, engaging in hyperbole and sarcasm and whatever. And so they have, for some reason, decided to just discount him and let him just say whatever he wants to say and call him honest."
He then said that, according to fact checkers, Clinton is one of the most honest politicians in the United States.
The rest of the panel smiled.
"There’s a disconnect there that she’s going to have to deal with," Van Jones added.
While Jones cited fact checkers to support his statement, studies have found that fact checkers tend to be biased against Republicans.
Jones had to resign from his post in the Obama administration in 2009 amid controversy.
