When former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D., N.Y.) was called out on Tuesday for taking money from Donald Trump during past campaigns, he responded that Trump has always been "a bit of an ass."
"You took money from Donald Trump," Fox Business’ Charlie Gasparino said to Weiner.
"Totally," Weiner said.
Weiner explained why he took the money, telling Gasparino that Trump was "handicapping" the mayoral election and could not be relied on for anything.
"But you took it," Gasparino said before citing previous comments that Weiner has made about Trump, including that he is a "xenophobe" and a "racist."
Gasparino asked if Trump changed overnight, or if he was a racist when Weiner took his money.
"Why didn’t you give back Donald’s [contribution]?" Gasparino asked.
"Give back?" Weiner asked. "First of all, I’m no–give him from what? From my pocket? The campaign’s long–he gave to me in 2004. Fine. Donald, you want it? Come get it. Come get–you know whatever your $4,800 that you gave me."
Gasparino laughed.
"No, Donald Trump gave it to me because in his–because, I don’t know–he thought I was a great politician."
Gasparino asked if he was a racist back then.
"He’s always been a bit of an ass," Weiner said.
"Ok," Gasparino responded.
"I’ll be honest with you," Weiner said. "Right? Can I say that? I left out the last part of it. He’s always been a bit of an ass."
He defended his sources of contributions when fundraising for a campaign, saying the donations were legal
Then he got personal.
"Here’s what I’d do," Weiner said. "If I still had his money, I would take it and write a check to Hillary Clinton. That’s what I would do. Just to piss him off."
Gasparino asked if Weiner thought Trump was really worth $10 billion.
"Oh this guy–if this guy–I gotta tell you something, you gather ten people here, we’re worth more than Donald Trump," he said.
