Sen. Tom Carper (D., Del.) tried to hype up Hillary Clinton's audience in Delaware on Monday by repeatedly getting them to repeat after him, yelling for "amens" and essentially treating the crowd like children.
Carper led off with a rendition of Donna Summer's "She Works Hard For The Money."
"Let me hear you say Donna! Summer! Diva! Extraordinaire!" Carper said. "We're going to channel Donna Summer here for a minute. This is the audience participation part of the show ... She works hard for the money. So hard for the money. She works hard for the money, so we'd better treat her right."
Carper, after forcing the crowd to try and sing the song, said "we're going to treat her right tomorrow. Are we going to treat her right on Election Day on November? If she's elected, and I think she will be, she will treat this country right ... Like she's done as secretary of state, she will work hard for the money."
Carper went on to make the audience repeat the following phrases, akin to a high school pep rally.
"Joe-Bama."
"Never give up."
"Our job, tomorrow."
"Strongest economy on the face of the Earth."
"A nation of peace."
"Most productive workforce on Earth."
"Most revered nation on Earth."
"Strongest advocate for justice on the face of the Earth."
Carper also butchered Clinton's resume at one point, calling her a former governor and former member of the House of Representatives. Clinton was neither.
"They did their job," he said. "For eight years, they did a great job for this country. Hillary was right there in the middle of it all. I saw her. I saw her as a governor, as the chairman of the National Governors Association. She was terrific. For the last eight years that we served together in the House, she did her job. She was amazing."
