Ryan Broyles’ best trait may be something most other National Football League wide receivers are sorely lacking: frugality.
The 25-year-old former Detroit Lion, who was cut on Monday and is now a free agent, is estimated to have more than $1 million in the bank despite making around $1.5 million after taxes thus far in his career. The New York Post estimates he has at least $1.3 million to his name and that's without considering how much he has made from investing his fortune rather than spending it on the non-essentials most NFL players indulge in.
That's because Broyles supports himself, as well as his wife and young child, on only $60,000 per year despite signing a contract with $1.42 million in guaranteed money and $550,000 a year in salary. He rents a car to get to and from training camp and he and his wife drive inexpensive Mazdas. He's even kept his 2005 Chevy Trailblazer from his time in college.
Broyles’ frugality has left him and his financially secure as he searches for a new gig in the NFL.
