Left-wing documentarian Michael Moore, known for his virulently anti-gun film Bowling for Columbine, on Thursday endorsed widespread private gun ownership and vigilantism.
"Disarm the police," Moore wrote on Twitter in response to ongoing unrest in Baltimore. "We have a 1/4 billion 2nd amendment guns in our homes 4 protection. We'll survive til the right cops r hired."

That position marked a shift for Moore, who devoted his 2002 documentary to attacking the availability of guns in American, which he blamed for the 1999 shooting at Columbine high school, which killed 13 people and injured 20 more.
"Guns are for hunters…and cowards," Moore has previously said.
