Obama's Islamic State Strategy 'A Glorified Light Show'

National Review editor Jonah Goldberg said that the Obama administration's strategy to combat the Islamic State (IS) was a "glorified light show" on Fox's Special Report with Bret Baier.

"It's not an air campaign. It's slightly more than a PR campaign," Goldberg said. "This is essentially a political operation. It is a way to say we are doing something to take the heat off him through the midterms to make it seem as if he's doing what he needs to do as commander in chief when, in fact, it's essentially a glorified light show at this point."

Goldberg said the administration's approach was "not strategically serious at all" and that, despite indications from the Pentagon that the key town of Kobani, Syria cannot be saved with air power alone, the United States is doing nothing further to keep it from falling to IS militants.

Goldberg emphasized that the decision to launch airstrikes in Syria was "politically driven."

"Obama has basically admitted if we hadn't those beheadings, he wouldn't be doing any of this anyway," Goldberg said. "I think he's responsive, reactionary to political events and media pressure."
