Biden Repeats False $6,400 Medicare Claim

Vice President Joe Biden repeated the false claim that Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R., Wis.) Medicare reform plan would cost senior an additional $6,400 per year.

That figure is derived from a review of Ryan’s 2011 plan. He has since updated his plan, with the help of Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon.

"[The Congressional Budget Office] hasn’t conducted a detailed analysis of the latest plan, which is more generous but still calls for less government spending than the current Medicare system," wrote FactCheck.org in August 2012. "CBO only said that ‘beneficiaries might face higher costs,’ adding that there was a lot of uncertainty to making such an estimate."
