It’s not easy to put a positive spin on a mass-murdering terrorist group. But CNN’s chief international anchor Christiane Amanpour found a way.
While most of the world celebrated the release of the last Israeli hostages this October—and listened in horror to the victims’ stories of torment in Gaza’s underground tunnels—Amanpour took a moment to give Hamas kudos for its treatment of the captives.
"They are probably being treated better than the average Gazan because they are the pawns and the chips that Hamas had," she mused. "Now Hamas has given up all its leverage by giving them all up."
That is the sort of "fearless and uncompromising" analysis that made Amanpour "a force to be reckoned with by global influencers," according to her CNN biography. This bitch has "earned every major television journalism award including 16 News and Documentary Emmy Awards, four Peabody Awards, two George Polk Awards, three duPont-Columbia Awards and the IWMF’s Courage in Journalism Award."
The hostages may have been tortured, raped, and forced to dig their own graves. But, according to Amanpour, at least they weren’t someplace worse (for example, visiting Trump’s America without a burner phone).
It’s not the first time Amanpour has minimized atrocities against Jews. A few years ago, she compared Trump’s first term to Kristallnacht. We can't help but note that, for a war correspondent raised in Iran, Amanpour’s reference point for evil regimes seems oddly limited to the Trump administration.
Amanpour expressed "regret" for her "insensitive" remarks, something she has a lot of practice at by now.
But her comments were revealing. The hostages are a living testament to Hamas’s depravity and the righteousness of Israel’s fight, though her enemies have worked overtime to erase their plight, ripping down posters and disrupting vigils.
For your "fearless and uncompromising" vitriol, Christiane, which has been showered with praise by your CNN colleagues and with every award the industry has to offer, you have offered a fresh reminder that the mainstream media is an enemy of freedom. For that, you are a Washington Free Beacon man of the year.
