Taiwan is claiming that the Chinese military is bolstering its military bases that face the island nation.
The island's Defense Ministry said the Chinese are amping up military and defense activities, the latest development as China escalates its provocations toward Taiwan, which the communist regime claims as its territory.
"This year, the Chinese Communist Party has aggressively expanded its armaments and continued to build various types of fighter jets and drones," Huang Wen-Chi, the assistant deputy chief with the General Staff for Intelligence of Taiwan’s Defense Ministry, said Tuesday during a press conference, according to the Associated Press.
The Defense Ministry added that in the past 24 hours it saw 22 warplanes and 20 warships belonging to China near Taiwan. Thirteen of those ships crossed the "median line," an unofficial barrier between the two countries.
Wen-Chi added that his ministry determined the Chinese bases near Taiwan are "being continuously updated."
The news comes a month after the Chinese state media aired a documentary depicting soldiers preparing to attack Taiwan and promising to give up their lives in battle if needed.
