Liberals slammed New York City mayor Eric Adams (D.) after he raised alarm over the city's migrant crisis, calling the Democratic mayor "Black Trump."

The mayor, who promised while campaigning for office that New York would remain a "sanctuary city," said last week that migrants flooding into Manhattan and other boroughs "will destroy New York City," prompting MSNBC's Ja'han Jones to compare Adams to the former president.

Adams has "lived up to the moniker" of "Black Trump," MSNBC writer Ja'Han Jones said in a Sunday article. Jones said Adams's remarks last week were "an anti-immigrant diatribe that sounded as if it had been ripped from the former president’s social media feed."

MSNBC's Mehdi Hasan also accused Adams of having a Trumpian tone, calling him a "Trump knock-off" in a post on X. Hasan also said Adams's comments on the migrant crisis were "awful" and lamented that "Republicans and far right folks are gleefully sharing it."
The migrant crisis in America's major cities has led to Democratic in-fighting. Lawyers for New York governor Kathy Hochul (D.) in August criticized Adams's handling of the issue. Adams has blasted the Biden administration for not expediting work permits for the migrants.
Days after Adams and Hochul squabbled over the crisis, a poll found that 82 percent of residents of New York State believe the migrant crisis is a "serious problem."
