Hillary Clinton Points Finger at 'MAGA Republicans' for Hot Summer Weather

July 25, 2023

Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton blamed Republicans for hot temperatures during the summer.

"Hot enough for you?" Clinton said in a tweet responding to a collection of alarmist headlines about "record" hot days. "Thank a MAGA Republican. Or better yet, vote them out of office."

Among the headlines Clinton responded to, compiled in a tweet from the left-wing think tank Center for American Progress, were "Earth just had the hottest June on record" and "July 4 was Earth's hottest day in over 100,000 years."

The headlines came as some U.S. cities saw record temperatures in recent weeks. Some pointed to the heat as evidence of the impact of climate change, while others, including meteorologist Ryan Maue, said the heat wave is not unprecedented.

The Center for American Progress's tweet also called out Republicans for voting against clean energy investments pushed by President Joe Biden. "Every MAGA Republican in Congress voted NO," the tweet read.

Democrats, including White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, have increasingly used the term "MAGA Republicans" to vilify those on the right. Government investigators concluded last month that Jean-Pierre's use of the term violated federal ethics laws. Biden also uses the term frequently.
