Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Mark Milley admitted in congressional testimony on Tuesday that he spoke with journalists who reported phone calls he made to top Chinese military brass.

"Did you talk to Bob Woodward or Robert Costa for their book Peril?" Armed Services Committee member Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R., Tenn.) asked Milley. "Did you talk to Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker for their book I Alone Can Fix It? ... Did you talk to Michael Bender for his book Frankly, We Did Win This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost?"

"Woodward, yes; Costa, no," Milley responded. The top general also admitted to talking to the other reporters but declined to say whether his conversations were represented accurately.

Woodward and Costa reported that Milley made phone calls to one of China’s most aggressive generals to assure he would give advance notice of any military action toward Beijing. The authors also said Milley took a call from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), during which he agreed that former president Donald Trump is "crazy."
