Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) misread her audience at a Thursday rally in Reno when she attempted to discuss electability.
While engaging in "real talk," Harris asked the crowd if America was "ready" for a "conversation" about electability.
"No!" several people shouted.
"Well, yes they are," Harris shot back.
After a strong start, Harris's popularity plummeted over the summer, despite the senator's insistence that she remains a "top tier" candidate. She hovers around 5 percent in the latest polls, trailing Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), former vice president Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), and South Bend, Ind., mayor Pete Buttigieg.
Although she has struggled to maintain support, Harris appeared on the cover of the October 11 issue of Time magazine. She also petitioned Twitter to ban President Donald Trump from the social media platform. Fellow 2020 contenders Warren and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D., Hawaii) criticized Harris's request.
