It was difficult for any red-blooded American to watch the Brett Kavanaugh hearing without doing a bit of yelling at the screen.
Rachel Mitchell, the Arizona prosecutor selected by Republicans on the Judiciary Committee to do their questioning, methodically asked Dr. Christine Blasey Ford pointed questions about her allegation. She asked them in a responsible, respectable manner, and if given a reasonable amount of time to do her questioning, would have gotten to her point eventually. This was, of course, not the case. Every five minutes, one of the committee's liberals would get the stage for their own five minutes of grandstanding; interrupting Mitchell's fact-finding mission and frustrating all who hoped reason would prevail.
The Republicans were losing the fight at intermission, and despite the clear need for a new playbook, they continued to have Mitchell take their time, even as Democrats made a mockery of the Senate.
That all stopped with Lindsey Graham, who was the first Republican to take his time and use it to say what we all were thinking.
Graham began his five minutes of fury by pointing to Chuck Schumer, known by many as Cryin' Chuck, and his statement on the day Kavanaugh was nominated that he would oppose his confirmation with everything he had.
"Are you aware that at 9:20 on the night of July 9, the day you were nominated by Trump, Sen. Schumer said, ‘I will oppose your nomination with everything I have'?"
Then he took aim at Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who kept Ford's allegation a secret even as she met with Kavanaugh.
"Did you meet with Sen. Feinstein on August 20? Did you know that her staff had already recommended a lawyer to Dr. Ford? Did you know that her and her staff had these allegations for over twenty days?"
Then he scolded the entire group of Democrats.
"What you want to do is destroy this guy's life, hold this seat open and hope you win in 2020," he said. "This is the most unethical sham since I've been in politics."
He ended with a parting message for his Republican colleagues.
"To my Republican colleagues, if you vote no you're legitimizing the most despicable thing I've seen in politics."
Graham emerged as hero of the Republican's Kavanaugh victory, but he wasn't done.
He spent the next few weeks crisscrossing the country to help Republicans in Senate races by making sure voters remembered what the Democrats did to Kavanaugh. And guess what? Mission accomplished again.
For having the guts to say what every great American was thinking, and helping deliver Republicans their biggest win of the year, Lindsey Graham, earned himself the honor of Washington Free Beacon Man of the Year.
