Donald Trump named Sean Spicer, chief strategist and communications director for the Republican National Committee, to be his White House press secretary, the president-elect's transition team said Thursday.

Trump announced the senior members of his White House communications team in a press release.

Spicer was picked to be press secretary and Hope Hicks, a spokesman for Trump on the campaign, was named director of strategic communications. Jason Miller, who was Trump's communications director during the campaign, will be the president's communications director in the White House. Dan Scavino will be Trump's director of social media.

Spicer tweeted his thanks after Trump made the announcement.

Trump said he was excited for his new communications team that helped him throughout the campaign and transition period.

"Sean, Hope, Jason, and Dan have been key members of my team during the campaign and transition. I am excited they will be leading the team that will communicate my agenda that will Make America Great Again," Trump said in a statement.
