The Worst of Nancy Pelosi

Free Beacon congratulates San Francisco Democrat on reelection as permanent minority leader

December 1, 2016

With the reelection Wednesday of Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) as the Democratic Party's leader in the Congress, the Washington Free Beacon decided to look back at her fabulously successful tenure.

For Republicans, anyway.

In addition to presiding over four consecutive Democratic Party defeats in House election cycles, Pelosi has played a leading role in the unpopular Affordable Care Act's passage, angrily dismissed questions about her embattled leadership, and made a tortured case for how she rectifies being pro-choice and a self-described "devout" Catholic.

Weeks after entertaining ideas of taking back the House majority for the first time since losing the 2010 election, Pelosi's dominance was strongly challenged in November after a brutal defeat for the party.

In the wake of President-elect Donald Trump's victory and the GOP's retention of House and Senate control, Rep. Tim Ryan (D., Ohio) launched a tough but ultimately unsuccessful bid to unseat her as House minority leader, demonstrating division within the party ranks.

The Free Beacon commends Pelosi's reelection.
