Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump couldn't seem to decide whether he treated women with respect during a 1993 interview with radio shock jock Howard Stern.
During the exchange, Stern teased the billionaire mogul about his alleged remarks that you have to treat women "like shit," which Trump denied.
"Why does a woman date you, Donald?" Stern asked. "Why does a woman date you?"
"I don't know, Howard," he said. "I know it's something that I work at."
"You think it's the money only?" Stern asked.
"I hope not," Trump said. "I will say this. I have a lot of wealthy friends. A lot of them. They can't get a date. No matter what they do, they try like hell and they can't get a date."
"And you once said that the best way to treat a woman is to treat her like doody," Stern said.
"I never said that," Trump said. "It was attributed to me."
Stern joked that he agreed with that statement, saying women don't listen otherwise and were "troublemakers."
"So you treat women with respect?" Stern asked.
"Uh, I can't say that either," Trump said, smiling.
"All right. Good. All right," Stern said. "Somewhere in between."
Trump, perhaps recognizing his statement, quickly recovered and said, "I do, I treat women with great respect."
"Treat women somewhere in between respect and doo-doo," Stern quipped.
Trump's past and present rhetoric about women has consistently gotten him in hot water during the 2016 election cycle. His remark that Megyn Kelly had "blood coming out of her wherever" during a debate drew charges that he was referring to her menstrual cycle, and he also made derogatory remarks about former rival Carly Fiorina's face.
Our Principles PAC also released a widely viewed ad of women repeating off-color remarks he had made in that regard.
