MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace reacted with shock and amusement on Monday at the idea that President Donald Trump could have changed his mind on his travel ban.
Wallace and her panel were discussing the Supreme Court's decision to hear ongoing litigation over the president's temporary ban on travel from six Muslim-majority countries. Much of the disagreement surrounding the bill is related to whether Trump's past statements, referring to the need for a ban on immigration from specifically Muslim countries, make the ban unconstitutionally discriminatory.
"The other question, and I want to be fair and make the argument, the other argument that Trump supporters and his lawyers make is, he has grown. He has changed," said MSNBC correspondent Ari Melber, framing one argument for discounting Trump's past statements.
"What?! What?!" Wallace said. "That's not—let me talk to them! He has not grown. He tweets 'I said mean first!' Who does that?"
"Oh my God, I need a drink!" she said.
Melber doubled down on his defense, but Wallace was adamant.
"Does anyone think that he's not trying to ban Muslims?" she asked.
