Donald Trump now leads Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House, according to two national polls released within the past 24 hours.
When asked who voters would choose if the election were held today, 42 percent of Americans supported Trump versus 37 percent who backed Clinton, a Rasmussen Reports survey found Thursday. 13 percent meanwhile said they preferred neither.
Trump’s five-point lead over his likely Democratic challenger marks a jump from a Rasmussen poll released earlier this month finding the business mogul holding a 41 percent to 39 percent edge over Clinton.
The latest survey was compiled with polling taken the night before and the night after Trump released a list of 11 conservative judges he would consider appointing to fill the Supreme Court vacancy should he win the presidency in November.
A Fox News poll released Wednesday evening also found the GOP’s presumptive nominee ahead of Clinton.
Its survey found Trump leading the former secretary of state by three points with a 45 to 42 percent edge if the general election were held that day. Clinton was ahead of Trump 48 to 41 percent in the same poll taken last month.
Speaking to CNN’s Chris Cuomo Thursday, Clinton declared the Democratic primary race over, claiming "there is no way" she will not be the party’s nominee.
Despite losing Oregon to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I, Vt.) during the primary Tuesday, she still maintains a surmountable delegate lead over her Democratic challenger.
