MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle Fat Shames Steve Bannon

June 20, 2017

MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle used the opening of her morning show on Tuesday to shame White House chief strategist Steve Bannon for his weight.

As "Morning Joe" was coming to a close, the show's panel discussed Bannon's comments to the Atlantic that the White House is now routinely holding off-camera briefings because press secretary Sean Spicer "got fatter." Ruhle chose to add her own opinion as her show started.

"On that note, I'm gonna guess Steve Bannon doesn't have a mirror in his office," Ruhle said.

Ruhle's comment came after former first daughter Chelsea Clinton spoke out against the White House for "fat shaming" Spicer, appearing to take Bannon's comments seriously.

MSNBC host and former George W. Bush administration official Nicolle Wallace defended Spicer's possible weight gain on "Morning Joe."

"Let me just say, it's hard to battle the bulge inside the White House," Wallace said. "A lot of sitting."

This is not the first time MSNBC has attacked Bannon for his appearance. Earlier this year on Lawrence O'Donnell's "The Last Word," MSNBC political commentator Christopher Dickey said that Europeans saw Bannon as a "slob" and a "dirty old man."

O'Donnell then compared Bannon to a homeless person, saying that he "looks like he slept on the subway last night."
