Vice President Joe Biden predicted on Monday that he would run for president in 2020 because "what the hell."

When reporters on Capitol Hill asked Biden if he would run for office again after his term comes to a close, he responded, "Yeah, I am. I am going to run in 2020." When pressed to clarify which position he would seek, the vice president retorted, "For president, what the hell man."

Biden later hedged that he was "not committing not to run," CNN reported.

"I’m not committing to anything. I learned a long time ago fate has a strange way of intervening," he continued.

Biden stuck around to take questions from reporters after attending a Senate vote on legislation that would increase funding for health research. The bill was in part dedicated to his son Beau, who died of brain cancer last year.

The vice president had considered running in the 2016 election, but decided against mounting a campaign against Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) given the grief his family endured after his son's death. Biden ultimately endorsed Hillary Clinton.
