Iowa Caucus-Goer Vents About 'F---ed Up' VA Live on MSNBC

February 1, 2016

What's some live Iowa caucus television without some colorful language slipped into the mix?

A fired-up caucus-goer in Iowa City was shown on MSNBC having an argument with supporters of Bernie Sanders Monday night and pointing out how "fucked up" the Department of Veterans Affairs was, prompting a hasty cut-away and apologies from MSNBC anchors Brian Williams and Rachel Maddow.

"What I want to know is how--because I get VA!" the young woman said. " I am VA. I am a vet. My mom's a vet. How is he going to fix it? Because I can tell you right now that the VA is more screwed up than it has been in a while. The fact that I haven't gotten benefits in three months because the VA is so fucked up really makes me concerned."

A few seconds later, Williams cut back in to narrate, while Maddow muttered, "Sorry about that."

"Well, when you listen into caucuses, you take the good with the bad, and people often speak the way they do out on the street, and we apologize," Williams said. "I know Jacob [Soboroff] apologizes. We all join in in apologizing for a bit of French that snuck into our English-language translation."

MSNBC has had issues with foul language on the air before, although that has generally not been the network's fault.
