Hugh Hewitt: Markay's NDA Report 'Problematic' for Hillary Clinton

November 9, 2015

Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt said Monday on Morning Joe that a piece by the Washington Free Beacon's Lachlan Markay on a non-disclosure agreement signed by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could be problematic for the Clinton campaign.

Hewitt said that "contemporaneous untruths" hurt presidential candidates more than lies told far in the past, and listed Vice President Al Gore as an example.

"Al Gore had a problem in 2000 because all of his untruths were very close to the period of time in which he was running for president," he said.

He pointed out that Clinton faces a similar situation and referred to Markay's report, which revealed that Clinton signed a document acknowledging responsibility for handling classified information as well as the consequences of mishandling it.

"Last week in the Washington Free Beacon, Lachlan Markay had a piece on former Secretary of State Clinton's NDA, her nondisclosure agreement," he said. "There appear to be lies in Mrs. Clinton's immediate past. Those will be problematic."

Hewitt said later in the interview that Markay's piece was "enormously huge," and accused MSNBC host Joe Scarborough as well as the broader media of not giving enough attention to stories like Markay's.

"We do not want to encourage the media to destroy Republicans and protect Democrats," he said regarding stories about Dr. Ben Carson's past. "We do not want to engage in the knifing of our candidates and ignore over here an NDA that Lachlan finds."

Scarborough pushed back angrily, at one point demanding an on-air apology from Hewitt for implying he gave Clinton a free pass on his show. Hewitt replied no apology would be forthcoming.

"The problem is that the mainstream media will not cover Hillary's problems," Hewitt said.
