Washington Free Beacon senior writer Elizabeth Harrington said on Thursday the liberal media no longer cares about facts and is only interested in the "narrative."
Harrington joined a panel to discuss President Donald Trump and the media's reaction to the discovery of suspicious packages containing potential explosives, which were sent to Democratic officials and other high profile individuals.
"The fact of the matter is media doesn't care about reporting the facts anymore. They care about reporting a narrative," Harrington said on Fox News. "The narrative is that it is Trump's fault and he attacks the media so that the media gets attacked."
Officials reported Wednesday morning that numerous suspicious packages were delivered or addressed to high profile individuals, including former 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama. Another device was discovered at CNN's headquarters in New York City and was addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan. Suspicious packages have also been sent to Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.), former Vice President Joe Biden, former Attorney General Eric Holder, and actor and Trump critic Robert De Niro.
Trump condemned the attempted bombings and called for unity on Wednesday, but on Thursday morning, the president tweeted out that a major factor of the heated political rhetoric is the "fake news" media.
Some reporters and anchors have insinuated Trump, because of his rhetoric, is to partially responsible for the bombs being sent to the public figures.
Harrington added that insinuation is irresponsible without any facts to back it up.
"I think that there is blame to go around for everybody's rhetoric. But I also think it is completely irresponsible for the media to jump on and say that this is President Trump's fault, personally, when they have no facts," Harrington said.
She pointed out the liberal media and Trump critics have also used heated rhetoric.
"Look at the media's culpability and driving up this division and this rhetoric. There is never an excuse for political violence. But when you have hysterical coverage for two years, saying everyone is going to die if we pull out of the Paris Accords, everyone is going to die when we pull out of net neutrality and the health care debate," Harrington said. "What happened after the health care debate when we were going to repeal Obamacare? James Hodgkinson tried to assassinate to the entire Republican House caucus."
