Clinton Elicits Laughter When She Suggests She’s Most Transparent Candidate Ever

September 15, 2016

Hillary Clinton drew laughter on Wednesday when she suggested that she is the most transparent presidential candidate in history.

CNN on Thursday morning aired an excerpt of a radio discussion between Clinton, CNN host Don Lemon, and NewsOne host Roland Martin on the Tom Joyner Morning Show.

Lemon asked Clinton about former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s leaked emails that were released this week, some of which were critical of Clinton. The Democratic nominee responded by saying that she did not want to comment on anything related to Powell’s private emails, which came from his personal Gmail account.

One email sent from Powell to Democratic megadonor Jeffrey Leeds drew particular attention.

"Everything HRC touches she kind of screws up with hubris," Powell wrote.

Lemon referenced this email and rephrased the question to ask Clinton what she would say to other critics who share Powell’s sentiment.

"I think I’ve worked very, very hard to be more transparent than not just my opponent, but in a comparison to anybody’s who’s run," Clinton said.

A voice, although it wasn't clear whose, laughed in response.

Correction: The article initially stated that Lemon laughed at Clinton, but a Turner spokeswoman contacted the Free Beacon to say it was not him. We have updated the article accordingly.
