The Democratic National Committee’s finance director, Jordan Kaplan, is now leaving following the WikiLeaks email release that showed DNC officials actively supporting Hillary Clinton over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) during their primary contest.
Kaplan will continue being active in political fundraising, however. He is now going to work for a consulting firm and will manage fundraising events with the Obamas for the DNC and Clinton’s presidential bid.
"Jordan Kaplan has decided to return to his consulting business full time. He will continue to manage DNC finance events featuring the president and first lady," a DNC official told Politico.
The DNC has not said who will take over Kaplan’s role as the presidential campaign revs up into high gear for the peak of the general election.
After WikiLeaks posted emails that were hacked from the DNC, then-chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the organization‘s chief executive, the chief financial officer, and the communications director all resigned. Many of Kaplan’s emails were among those involved, including documents pertaining to who got to sit next to President Obama at a fundraiser.
Kaplan has been closely tied to President Obama for years. He worked on Obama’s Senate campaign in 2004 before being a fundraiser for his presidential campaign in 2008. Kaplan has been working at the DNC since 2013.
