The Atlantic’s Molly Ball said Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will run on policy "because she can’t really run on character" Sunday morning on CNN.
Backing Ball up is a CNN poll released on Tuesday showed a dip in Clinton’s numbers. Forty-seven percent of poll respondents feel that Clinton cares about people like them, down from 53 percent from July 2015, and her trustworthiness levels are also badly underwater after reports of pay-for-play during her tenure at the State Department.
During CNN’s "Inside Politics" segment, Associated Press reporter Julie Pace pointed out that during the last presidential election Mitt Romney faced similar troubles about voters viewing him as a person that cares about them. Pace mentioned that Clinton would have to boost the way voters feel about her in order to make her argument stronger.
"I don’t actually think she is," Ball said. "I think that’s why she is running so aggressively on policy is because she can’t really run on character."
Host John King called it an "excellent point."
