Ad: Veteran 'Insulted' That Braley Missed More Than 75% of VA Hearings

September 4, 2014

A Republican group will unveil a new million-dollar ad buy Friday that hits Rep. Bruce Braley (D., Iowa) for missing more than three-fourths of hearings held by the full Veterans’ Affairs committee, the Des Moines Register reports.

Republicans previously criticized the Democratic Senate candidate for his absences at the hearings and his vote against a pay raise for troops in July 2012. The 30-second spot from the Freedom Partners Action Fund features a Vietnam veteran discussing his displeasure with Braley:

"As a veteran, I was insulted that Braley would be on the Veterans Affairs Committee and miss 79 percent of the meetings," says a man identified as "Jon," a Vietnam-era veteran from Adel. "Veterans risked their lives for our country and Bruce Braley didn't have the respect to show up to support them."

The ad then shifts in tone, as Jon begins talking about Ernst, the Republican in the race, whom he calls "a very true Iowan."

"I'm a proud veteran, I'm a proud Iowan and I'm voting for Joni Ernst," Jon says.
