Panetta: al-Qaeda ‘Still Continue to Threaten Our Country’

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta discussed the war in Afghanistan and the battle to eradicate the al-Qaeda terrorist network Thursday on CNN's "OutFront."

Panetta said the Obama administration's stated mission of defeating and deterring Al-Qaeda is "well on its way" but that its threat remains in places like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia, among others.

"I think we have significantly weakened their ability to do the kind of command and control and planning that would be necessary to conduct another 9/11 attack," Panetta said. "At the same time, they still continue to threaten our country, and they still represent, I think, probably the most important threat we still face in the world."
