Wreckage believed to be from the doomed EgyptAir flight that crashed in the Mediterranean Sea in May washed up on a beach near Tel Aviv, Israeli authorities said Thursday.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the debris be sent to Egypt as early as Friday for inspection, Reuters reported.

The EgyptAir Flight 804 from Paris to Cairo vanished from radar May 19 before plunging into the Mediterranean Sea. Fifty-six passengers and 10 crew members were aboard the flight.

The debris was "collected and it turns out there is a very high probability that they are from the Egyptian plane," an Israeli official told Reuters. "In accordance with international procedures, France, the aircraft’s departure point, and Egypt, were informed."

Egyptian investigators said Tuesday that audio from a recovered cockpit voice recorder revealed that pilots aboard the flight attempted to extinguish a fire aboard the plane before it crashed.

Authorities have not yet ruled out terrorism in the ongoing investigation.
