Hillary Clinton’s former chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, was granted immunity by the FBI along with two other staff members in exchange for their testimony in the now-closed federal investigation of Clinton’s private email server.
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, told the Associated Press on Friday that Mills allowed the FBI to have full access to her laptop with the condition that anything the investigators found could not be used against her.
"No wonder they couldn’t prosecute a case. They were handing out immunity deals like candy," Chaffetz said.
The FBI gave two other individuals–John Bentel, then-director of the State Department’s Office of Information Resources Management, and Clinton aide Heather Samuelson–immunity deals during the bureau’s investigation of Clinton’s email practices while at the State Department.
The FBI recommended in July that the Justice Department not pursue charges against Clinton for mishandling classified material over the server.
