One year after the Dec. 2, 2015 terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California, authorities have uncovered evidence revealing that shooter Syed Farook may have been set off after he had to attend a mandatory training session in a room adorned with holiday decorations, including a Christmas tree.

The FBI and police unearthed emails revealing Farook's wife, Tashfeen Malik, protesting to the Christmas themed event while expressing frustration that her husband was forced to go.

"She had essentially made the statement in an online account that she didn't think that a Muslim should have to participate in a non-Muslim holiday or event," San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan told ABC News. "That really is one over the very, very few pieces of potential evidence that we have that we can truly point to and say, 'That probably is a motive in this case.'"

ABC News obtained a photo of Farook posing with four colleagues in front of a Christmas tree just before he and his wife opened fire, killing 14 people.

Police fatally shot Farook and his wife hours after the rampage. The couple had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in a message posted to social media.
