Vernon Jordan stole a rifle and an American flag from a home in Springfield, Mo., and ran to the doors of various houses without a shirt on shouting about his missing wife and child, the Springfield News-Leader reports.
Jordan told police that he found the firearm, which he described as a "Buffalo soldier gun," in a nearby barn, though a similar weapon was reported stolen from a neighborhood home. A woman reported an American flag, which may be the one in Jordan’s possession, stolen from her laundry room.
Jordan, 49, was charged with a number of crimes, including burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Multiple witnesses identified Jordan, who has previously been convicted of sodomy and assault, to police.
Jordan’s bond has been set at $25,000.
