Another MSNBC primetime host is being reassigned. Rev. Al Sharpton is being moved from his weeknight slot of 6 p.m. to Sunday mornings at 8 a.m.

Sharpton told the New York Daily News that he did not view the change as a demotion.

"First, I can reach a wider audience of people who don’t get home by 6 at night. Second, I can now get the A-list guests and newsmakers I want. And third, a Sunday morning host is what I always wanted to be," Sharpton told the Daily News.

Sharpton said that he wanted to be more like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and less like Larry King. Sharpton’s shows will be split between pretaped and live broadcasts.

The move comes weeks after MSNBC cancelled The Cycle, Now with Alex Wagner, and The Ed Show.

MSNBC has consistently declined in the Nielsen television rankings and has cut several commentary shows after Morning Joe’s time slot. The rest of the evening lineup remains unchanged.
