China’s Lunar Rover Declared Dead

February 12, 2014

The Chinese moon rover is no longer functioning on the moon’s surface due to mechanical problems.

The BBC reported that the robot, also known as the Jade Rabbit, went offline last month and the Chinese government was unable to bring it back to full function.

According to the BBC:

The Jade Rabbit, or Yutu in Chinese, was deployed on the Moon's surface on 15 December.

It was the first successful soft landing on the Moon since 1976.
