Former soccer player Donald Trump, who is currently trailing Ted Cruz in Iowa, is a lifelong teetotaler and non-smoker. (He doesn’t even drink coffee.) On Monday he compared smoking to narcotics during a speech in New Hampshire. In the past he has claimed that children hoping to be "successful" should never drink alcohol or smoke. He has also pledged on countless occasions to "make America great again."
As some readers know, Trump is a huge fan of polls. Well, the president considered the greatest of the 20th century according to numerous polls also ended Prohibition and smoked constantly.
Franklin D. Roosevelt started smoking when he was young:
He smoked in cars:
… and on boats:
… inside:
… and outside:
… with a fancy cigarette holder:
… or without one:
… with his dog:
… on vacation:
… when he was with his friends:
… doing things like fishing:
Even in those rare moments when he wasn’t smoking, FDR let his friends smoke:
He smoked while declaring war on the Nazis, whose leader was a non-smoker and vegetarian.
FDR also drank:
… sometimes a lot:
Put simply, history suggests that there is a strong correlation between smoking and drinking and making America great. Trump fans, take note.
