Spicer Says Three Times He Has Nothing to Add on Questions About Trump's Tweets

May 12, 2017

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer repeatedly told Reuters correspondent Jeff Mason during the Friday press briefing that the president had nothing to add when discussing Donald Trump's early morning tweets.

"Did President Trump record his conversations with former FBI Director Comey?" Mason asked.

"I assume you are referring to the tweet, and I've talked to the president and the president has nothing further to add on that," Spicer said.

"Why did he say that? Why did he tweet that? What should we interpret from that?" Mason pushed further.

Spicer responded quickly. "As I mentioned, the president has nothing further to add on that," he said.

Mason continued to push Spicer. "Are there recording devices in the Oval Office or in the residence?" he asked.

"As I've said for the third time, there is nothing further to add on that," Spicer responded with a grin.

When Mason asked if if was appropriate to threaten Comey, Spicer was quick to dismiss the claim that the tweet was a threat before ending Mason's line of questioning.
