Sen. Mark Udall (D., Colo.) cannot make up his mind about what the United States should do with prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.
The Democratic incumbent flip-flopped on whether the government should keep accused terrorists held in Guantanamo Bay in prison, or release them to their home countries.
"Let's close it. We can send these terrorists back," Udall said in an interview with Denver’s Fox 31. "I’m sorry, we'll keep the terrorists here in jail indefinitely--but there are a lot of people at Guantanamo that ought to be sent back to their countries from where they came and there's another way we can prosecute and incarcerate and punish the people who attack us."
Udall called Gitmo a "stain on our reputation," and said that former President George W. Bush also advocated for the controversial prison’s closure.
In June 2013, Udall released a statement supporting efforts to transfer prisoners out of Gitmo. Udall "pledged to ensure the detainees are transferred in a way that protects our national security and ensures the facility is closed in a responsible way," the statement read.
