President Donald Trump has confidence in Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, according to White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Sanders' statement came during a press gaggle aboard Air Force One on Wednesday, and was subsequently released by the office of the press secretary.

Towards the end of taking questions, one reporter asked Sanders if Trump had confidence in Tillerson.

"One last one—I'll catch you if you fall here—does the president have confidence in Secretary Tillerson?" the reporter asked.

"Absolutely," Sanders said. "I answered this question yesterday."

The president's trust in the secretary of state has been in question following comments Tillerson made on television this past Sunday. When asked about whether Trump speaks for American values on race, Tillerson replied that "the president speaks for himself." He refused to say if he was "separating" himself from Trump by that statement.

Tillerson has also come under fire from some in the more nationalist faction of the Trump administration. Most recently, resigned Deputy Assistant to the President Sebastian Gorka accused Tillerson of being part of the so-called "globalist" faction in his letter of resignation, a charge that Tillerson vehemently denied.
