Trump: Clinton's Medical Episode 'Quite Sad' and I Wish Her Well

September 12, 2016

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump called Hillary Clinton's fainting episode on Sunday "quite sad" and said he wished his opponent well during an interview Monday on CNBC's Squawk Box.

Clinton was forced to leave a 9/11 memorial event early on Sunday, nearly fainting and having to be helped into a van by her security detail. After recuperating, she went home to Chappaqua, New York, and her campaign revealed she had been diagnosed with pneumonia two days earlier.

Trump, who has said Clinton lacks the stamina to be president, was asked if there was any "satisfaction" in being prescient about Clinton's health problems, but he said there was none.

"Well, I don't take satisfaction, Joe, and frankly, I hope she gets well, and I hope she gets well soon, but it was quite sad, to be honest with you," Trump said. "I hope she gets well soon. No satisfaction, believe me, whatsoever."

After describing the tough schedule he was undertaking and his fundraising efforts, Trump called it "grueling work."

"It was interesting because they say pneumonia on Friday, but she was coughing very, very badly a week ago and even before that, if you remember," he said. "It's very interesting to see what is going on. I want her to get better. I want her to get out there. I look forward to seeing her in the debate. I will say this. The scheduling, if you look at my scheduling and compared to anybody else's scheduling, it's not a contest."

Trump said he'd found the whole challenge "invigorating."
