A top adviser to Hillary Clinton slammed Anthony Weiner's estranged wife to Vanity Fair, saying that he does "not give a shit about" what happens to Huma Abedin in the wake of the election.
The adviser, who spoke to the magazine anonymously, said he was "pissed off" over the way that Abedin handled herself during the campaign and suggested that it had a bad effect on Clinton.
"She was enjoying the red carpet and enjoying the photo spreads much too much in my opinion," the source said. "She enjoyed being a celebrity too much."
Particularly distressing for the adviser was the way Abedin handled herself the day after the election, where he says separated herself from the rest of the staff.
"He was irked, in particular, at Abedin’s seemingly superfluous breach of decorum during a post-election event," wrote Vanity Fair's William Cohan. "On the day after Hillary Clinton’s stunning loss to Donald Trump, this person said, Abedin appeared within the rope line while Clinton greeted her morose and woebegone supporters. 'You’re staff, O.K.?' this adviser continued. 'Staff is staff. You’re not a principal.'"
Many in the campaign worried that Abedin's tendency to shut people out may have rubbed off on Clinton and reinforced her tendency to rely only on her tight inner circle of advisers.
Although he noted that Abedin lost some of her allure to the private sector now that Clinton's political career is likely over, he predicted that she will "do very well for herself."
"She’s someone that will be sought after either personally or through business from many rich, very rich connected people," he said. "She’ll do very well for herself."
He added, however, that he doesn't really care what happens to her.
"Maybe I’m just pissed off, but I really don’t give a shit about what happens to Huma to be honest with you," he said.
