Kaine Tries to One-Up Pence's Anecdote About 9/11

October 4, 2016

Sen. Tim Kaine (Va., D) attempted to interject himself into Indiana Gov. Mike Pence's answer involving the September 11 terrorist attacks during Tuesday night's vice presidential debate.

Pence was answering a question in regards to national security and stated that America had "weakened America's place in the world" under President Obama's leadership.

"I was in Washington DC on 9/11. I saw the clouds of smoke rise from the Pentagon," Pence, a former congressman, started to say before Kaine interrupted him.

"I was in Virginia where the Pentagon is located," Kaine said.

Pence took the interruption in stride and responded, "We all lived through that day as a nation. It was heartbreaking."
