A trio of beauties known for playing hookers and strippers in the hit comic book adaptation Sin City descended upon Charlotte Thursday for the Democratic National Convention.
Alexis Bledel, who played the traitorous prostitute Becky, has long been allied with the Obama campaign. The character she played on the television series Gilmore Girls announced that her first job was reporting on the 2008 Obama campaign, and the actress herself has hit the trail for Obama in 2012, attending a "birthday party" fundraiser for the president in August.
Bledel will appear on a virtual, web-only convention with other Hollywood luminaries such as Kal Penn, Olivia Wilde, and Fran Drescher before the president’s acceptance speech on Thursday. Democrats hope their star power will woo young voters disillusioned by Obama’s failed record and inability to improve the 17.1 percent unemployment rate faced by those between the ages of 16 and 24.
Jessica Alba, who played stripper with a heart of gold Nancy in Sin City, is also at the convention. She has spent her time in Charlotte getting cozy with "gilded age"-themed steakhouse magnate Eva Longoria.
Rosario Dawson, who played head-hooker Gail in the 2005 Robert Rodriguez film, is more ambivalent about the president than her costars. She is in Charlotte in support the Latino voting rights group Voto Latino, and says that the last four years have opened her eyes to the hollowness of "hope and change":
The economy has been really bad, so I think people have come out of that hope change conversation and what they were looking for coming out of the Bush years and are in a different place now that's a little bit more—not vulnerable—but definitely a little more disquieted. Not as exuberant and excited.
