Sen. Sherrod Brown (D., Ohio) sent out a fundraising email on Monday afternoon that attempts to raise money off the news that his likely Republican opponent Josh Mandel was exiting the race because of his wife's health problems.

Mandel announced last Friday that he was ending his campaign for U.S. Senate, saying in a statement that his wife's health issue will require his "time, attention, and presence."

"Understanding and dealing with this health issue is more important to me than any political campaign," Mandel said.

Brown's fundraising email, which can be viewed in full here, makes no mention of the reason Mandel decided to end his campaign but calls it a "big turning point in the race."

"You read that line right: Josh Mandel has dropped out of the race," writes the email.

Following Mandel's Friday announcement, Brown wrote on Twitter that he wished Mandel's "family the best of health."

"At this time, we wish Josh, Ilana, and their family the best of health," Brown wrote. "We hope for Ilana's full and speedy recovery."
