Durbin Says Gorsuch Should Get a 'Respectful Hearing and a Vote'

March 20, 2017

Sen. Dick Durbin (D., Ill.) said on Monday that Judge Neil Gorsuch should have a "respectful hearing" and a subsequent vote to confirm his position on the Supreme Court.

Durbin said this during Gorsuch's confirmation hearing by the Senate Judiciary Committee at the Hart Office Building in Washington, D.C.

He did take a dig at the Republican Party for a past move that blocked the hearing of former President Barack Obama's Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland.

"The Democrats of the Senate Judiciary Committee will extend to you a courtesy which Senate Republicans denied to Judge Garland: a respectful hearing and a vote," he said.
