Democratic Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill will not attend this year’s Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, a McCaskill aide told Talking Points Memo Tuesday:
McCaskill joins a list of vulnerable Democratic politicians whose home districts are hostile ground for President Obama and who will be steering clear of the convention.
"In years when Claire is on the ballot, she has historically not gone to the convention," the aide said, "because she believes it’s important to stay in Missouri to talk to voters."
President Obama, the likely Democratic nominee at this year’s convention, held a 45 percent approval rating against a 50 percent disapproval rating in Missouri in February 2012.
Democratic Montana Senator Jon Tester will also skip the Democratic National Convention. Obama held a 32 percent approval rating in Montana in November 2011.
